Chapter Eighteen

Finn and I snuck back into the keep, dodging Fianna as we turned into the hallway leading to the bedrooms.

We stood facing each other, and I offered an awkward smile before turning to go up the stairs. “So, um…good night,” I mumbled, feeling shy now that we were back inside Fianna headquarters.

Finn brushed my hand, and I turned around. “I need to sleep before patrol tonight, but—”

“Yeah, of course.” I stammered, glancing up at the stairwell and shoving my hands in my pockets. “Today was really great.”

Finn looked down at his boots. “Yes.”

“So, um. Good night.”

Finn cursed under his breath. He grabbed me and his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me into a hidden closet below the stairs. I gasped as he ran his hands up and down my body, planting frantic kisses on my mouth, my neck, my chest.

“I don’t know how I’m going to concentrate tonight, thinking about your beautiful breasts,” he breathed, sneaking his hand beneath my shirt. My knees buckled in response, and my hips jerked against him.

“Is that all you think about?” I suppressed a smile as I kissed his neck. “My breasts?”

He slapped my behind, and I yelped.

“That, and this fine arse.” He growled in my ear.

“Cut it out!” I squealed as he ground me closer to him.

“And your beautiful mind.” He kissed my forehead. “And your kind heart.” He bent to kiss my chest, his voice muffled against my skin. “Mmmmm…but these breasts… God, your breasts are brilliant…” He buried his face between the lapels of my coat and sucked my nipple through my shirt and bra. I choked back a scream as his hands wandered down between my thighs.

“You need to get some sleep, soldier,” I whispered in his ear, and his hands drifted back up to my waist, his lips lingering on my mouth.

“I don’t want to leave you.” He stroked my hair with his other hand, smoothing it away from my forehead.

I planted a soft kiss on his mouth and folded his hand in mine. “You need rest, Finn. I can’t have you slipping on the job and getting eaten by gray men.” I leaned my forehead against his, smiling. “I need you to protect me from the baddies.”

He twisted his hand in my hair. “I will protect you, Elizabeth. Always.”

He kissed me one last time, his hand resting on my shoulder. “Make sure to pack some clothes. Warm things. A raincoat. Some good walking boots.” Finn’s eyes clouded with worry. “And you’ll need a nice dress for the council meeting. It’s a formal event. Just nothing too…”

“Boobalicious?” I quirked an eyebrow at him.

Finn sighed. “Yes.”

I clasped my hand in his. “Be safe tonight.”

Finn smiled. “Of course.” He kissed my hand. “Till tomorrow?”

I nodded, and Finn retreated from the closet, walking backward, his gaze never leaving mine until he disappeared down the hallway. Sighing, I turned out of the narrow vestibule and ran right into Aoife. The high, floating-on-air feeling vanished in a poof of Chanel No. 5 as she stumbled away from me with a curse.
